Natural Ways To Cure A Sinus Infection

A sinus infection can be treated with some simple home remedies. Here are a few of the natural options available to treat a sinus infection quickly at home.

Drink A Lot Of Liquids

Drinking a lot of water, broth and hot tea will help to dissolve the mucus and drain your sinuses. If you normally drink a lot of caffeinated beverages then you should steer clear of those while treating your sinus infection since this will dehydrate you and cause mucus to thicken.

Get Steamed

Steam is great for removing mucus from your sinuses. Boil some water until it is steaming and then place at least three drops of eucalyptus oil in it. Hang your face over the water and drape your head over it to form a tent, then inhale the steam. This should clear your blocked sinuses in a few minutes. If you do not have eucalyptus oil available you can use peppermint oil as a substitute.

Relieve Excess Mucus With Facial Exercise

You can relieve a sinus infection by doing some pressure point exercises on your face. Here are the steps for the exercises:

  1. Place an index finger on top of each nostril. Rotate your index fingers, closing each nostril as you do so. Continue doing this for ten seconds.
  2. Place your index fingers at the inner corners of your eyes and rotate them for at least twenty seconds.
  3. Use you index fingers to stroke along your cheekbones to behind your ears for about twenty seconds.

These three easy exercises will provide you with quick relief from blocked sinuses.

Rinse With Salt

A saltwater rinse can clear your nasal passages quickly. You can purchase it at your local pharmacy or you can make your own at home. Here is a recipe for making it:

Ingredients

  1. Iodide free salt
  2. Baking soda
  3. 1 cup of boiled water

Method

  1. Get a clean container.
  2. Mix two  teaspoons of salt with one teaspoon of baking soda.
  3. Add the boiled water.
  4. Stir the mixture.

To use this mixture you will need a rubber bulb syringe. Use the syringe to draw out some of the mixture from the container. Tilt your head back and squirt some into one of your nostrils. Repeat the process for the next nostril.

Sinus infections can leave you feeling less than your best but if you start using any of the treatments outlined above you should start feeling better quickly. For assistance, talk to a professional like Rochester Otolaryngology Group PC.
